An 8 months girl was seen at a Dermatology clinic and was found to have yellow skin from eating large amount of green beans.
Yellowing of the skin from eating large amount of carrots or other vegetables is called carotenemia.
Blood tests were done and all of them are within normal except for the high level of the carotene 618 (50-250 microgram/dl, normal range.)
List of vegetables and fruits with significant content of carotene: Asparagus, Beet greens, Broccoli, Carrots, Green beans, Okra, Peas, Spinach, Sweet potatoes, Swiss chard, Apricots, Cantaloupe, Mangoes, and Papayas.
