Two to Three Months Old
When to be concerned
- Baby is not gaining weight or gains below half an ounce a day.
- The soft spot (anterior fontanel) is closed.
- One or both eyes are persistently turning in.
- Baby is not looking at parents.
- Breathing is fast and not feeding well.
- Baby's color is pale or bluish.

To to Three Months Old
INJURY & ILLNESS PREVENTION
- Continue your good job of using infant car seat properly secured.
- Baby to sleep still on back or side.
- Make sure bath water is not hot.
- Never leave baby alone or with a young sibling or pet.
- Do not leave baby in high places, such as changing table.
- Continue good job of keeping environment smoke free.
- Check smoke detector if working properly.
- Do not drink or smoke while holding baby.
- Avoid overexposure to sun.
- Keep toys with small parts or other small objects out of reach.
- Avoid crowds as much as possible.
- Avoid visitors with colds or cough.
Two to Three Months Old
NUTRITION
- Make sure baby is gaining enough weight.
- If your are breastfeeding: Ensure that breastfeeding is of appropriate frequency and duration. Discuss with your clinician any problems with breastfeeding.
- If baby is deeply pigmented or does not get enough sunlight, give baby 400 I.U.'s of vitamin D daily.
- If you are bottle feeding: Ensure that baby gets appropriate amount of iron-fortified formula. Hold baby in a semi-sitting position during feeding. Do not use a microwave oven to heat formula.
- Delay the use of solid foods until baby is 4 to 6 months old.
- Do not give honey until after the first birthday to prevent botulism.
- Physical Examination 2 - 3 Months old
