Molluscum contagiosum is a common skin problem in children. It is a small flesh colored round bump in the skin about the size of pimple. Most children are not bothered by it, however, the parents are the one who are concerned.

Most of the time it would go away by itself without any form of treatment. However, it might take about 2 years for it to go away.

There are many forms of treatment of Molluscum. Of them is the use of KOH (potassium hydroxide, 5%). It is applied at the molluscum twice a day. In the study of Dr. Romiti, reported at Pediatric Dermatology, the molluscum bumps goes away within 6 weeks of twice a day treatment with 5% KOH.

There were no serious side effects from the treatment according to Dr. Romiti.
