Diarrhea is a common problem in children. This what we tell parents of our practice when to call us or worry:
When the diarrhea becomes bloody.
When your child has a fever.
When there is stomach pain.
When the diarrhea is becoming more frequent or worse as hours goes by.
When there is no improvement in 18 hours.
When there are signs of dehydration.
When you have questions or concerns about the diarrhea.
The signs of dehydration are:
The child has not urinated for 12 hours.
The child has no tears when he or she cries.
The soft spot of the top of the head is sunken or deep.
The childs lips are dry.
The child’s eyes are sunken and the skin around the eyes is dark.
The child is less active, not playing as before, difficult to wake up.
Any diarrhea that is persistent should be checked by a physician .
