Counting with a four month old

Most four months old babies can lift their head and extend their neck with the chin up when placed on their belly. Some of them can roll over and take this position. While on the floor or the crib, if your baby seems alert and wants to play, place one single plug purple Mega Bloks (MB) and say "One." Point at it with your left hand, pause, then make a circular stroke and say "One" again. Get another one purple single MB and place it about one inch to the right of the first MB. Count both of it by pointing at the first and second and say "One, two" pause, make a circular stroke and say "Two, all of them are two." Get another single purple MB and put it about half an inch to the right of the second purple MB. Count by pointing at the top of the round purple plug by saying "One, two, three" pause, make a circular stroke over the three MB then say "All of them are three." By making the circular stroke and mentioning "three" is a body language saying that "three" is a cardinal number that represents the group.

Now you have three single purple MB arrange in a horizontal position in relation to the view of your baby. Count it from left to right, then right to left using the usual counting procedure above including the circular motion.

Re-arrange the orientation of alignment of the three MB vertically when your baby is looking at the array of three. Make the distance about one inch from each other. Count the three using the usual procedure from top to bottom and reverse count from bottom to top.

Re-arrange the orientation of the three purple Bloks diagonally from your baby's point of view and count again following the usual procedure. Repeat the counting game at least four times a day.  Do if for a few days. Then do four single plug purple Mega Bloks using the usual counting procedure.

This method of counting is better that the traditional "point and count" used by most parents.
