Most children with asthma has a prolonged cough. Usually it is longer than three week. The coughing is also common at night. Sometimes they vomit after coughing. If the coughing is associated with wheezing, asthma is the most likely diagnosis. When a child with asthma has a “cold” or viral infection, his cough lingers on longer than 2 weeks while the rest of the family members has recovered from their “colds.”
Asthma is not the only cause of prolonged cough. Sinusitis, allergy, cystic fibrosis, foreign body, etc. are some considerations.
